NESTLED IN THE HEART OF ALBERTA'S BOREAL FOREST

425 Kilometers (265 Mi) Northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. Winefred Lake boasts some of the finest trophy fishing in Alberta, consistently producing large Northern Pike and Walleye.

Originally constructed of native logs in 1980 Winefred Lake Lodge started as a fly-in fishing lodge,. The original lodge was destroyed by fire in 1981 and was re-constructed with logs from the Edson/Hinton forest, opening to the public in 1984. In the mid to late 1980’s, a primitive trail from Lac La Biche was constructed utilizing trails and right-of-ways created by Alberta’s Oil & Gas and Forestry industries, now making Winefred Lake Lodge a drive-in facility. However, the drive was not for the faint-of-heart and made for some great campfire stories.

TRAVEL

Bit-by-bit, the road improved making access easier. Today, Secondary Highway 881 is paved all the way from Lac La Biche to Fort McMurray, leaving only 70km or approximately 40 miles of gravel road from the hamlet of Conklin to Winefred Lake Lodge. We still recommend that guests travel to the lodge in a reliable 4×4 or SUV, as our northern roads can get quite muddy after a hard rain.

FAMILY OWNED

Winefred lake lodge is now a family operated business and is still well regarded for its spectacular fishing. Guests can enjoy everything from “do it your self” day trips on Winefred lake to week long fully guided adventures. While initially coming to fish and/or enjoy the outdoors, after a few days it is not uncommon to find our guests reading a good book on our expansive deck, telling stories around a campfire or, simply relaxing in our outdoor hot-tub.

Regardless of what brings you to Winefred Lake Lodge, we assure you that you will enjoy excellent service, 4-star accommodation; great fishing and that you will take home memories that will last a lifetime.
